Refuting Attacks Against Our Faith: An Example

چکیده
My focus in this essay is to illustrate, through a detailed analysis of one particular article, the range of fallacious tactics that are used in attacks against religious faith. This article espouses a characterization of faith as a “mind virus,” more technically called a meme. Before analyzing this article, some brief background on memes seems appropriate. The term meme was first introduced by renowned zoologist Richard Dawkins in his first book, The Selfish Gene, in 1976.1 Memes are ideas that spread through human culture and across human generations, much like genes in the biological world.2 To quote Richard Dawkins:

A New Intrusion Detection System to deal with Black Hole Attacks in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks
By extending wireless networks and because of their different nature, some attacks appear in these networks which did not exist in wired networks. Security is a serious challenge for actual implementation in wireless networks. Due to lack of the fixed infrastructure and also because of security holes in routing protocols in mobile ad hoc networks, these networks are not protected against attack...
متن کاملOptimal authentication protocols resistant to password guessing attacks
Users are typically authenticated by their passwords. Because people are known to choose convenient passwords, which tend to be easy to guess, authenti-cation protocols have been developed that protect user passwords from guessing attacks. These proposed protocols , however, use more messages and rounds than those protocols that are not resistant to guessing attacks. This paper gives new protoc...
متن کاملImproving Tor security against timing and traffic analysis attacks with fair randomization
The Tor network is probably one of the most popular online anonymity systems in the world. It has been built based on the volunteer relays from all around the world. It has a strong scientific basis which is structured very well to work in low latency mode that makes it suitable for tasks such as web browsing. Despite the advantages, the low latency also makes Tor insecure against timing and tr...
متن کاملAttacking a Protocol for Group Key Agreement by Refuting Incorrect Inductive Conjectures
Automated tools for finding attacks on flawed security protocols often struggle to deal with protocols for group key agreement. Systems designed for fixed 2 or 3 party protocols may not be able to model a group protocol, or its intended security properties. Frequently, such tools require an abstraction to a group of fixed size to be made before the automated analysis takes place. This can preju...
متن کاملHMAC-Based Authentication Protocol: Attacks and Improvements
As a response to a growing interest in RFID systems such as Internet of Things technology along with satisfying the security of these networks, proposing secure authentication protocols are indispensable part of the system design. Hence, authentication protocols to increase security and privacy in RFID applications have gained much attention in the literature. In this study, security and privac...
